Student Learning Outcomes - Specialist

Students who successfully complete the Specialist Certificate in Library and Information Science at the Wayne State University School of Information Sciences will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced or extended competence in areas of specialization in a particular area of librarianship or information studies begun during the first professional degree program (MLIS).
  2. Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge in the rapidly-changing field of librarianship and information management: the organization, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of the human record.
  3. Use investigative methods and research findings in problem-solving and in the planning and evaluation of library and information services.
  4. Develop a new specialized competence responsive to the changing economic, technological, or social climate or to changing conditions in the life of the individual information professional.
