SLIS Alumni Improve Access to Reuther Oral History Collection
A team at the Walter P. Reuther Library, including multiple SLIS alumni, recently completed an extensive project intended to improve access to significant portions of the Reuther Library Oral History Collection.
"The project improved the description of, and access to, 1,670 oral history interviews held in the Reuther's collections, 773 of which are newly described," explained Erik Nordberg, Academic Director of Wayne State University Libraries. "This included creating or updating resource records in ArchivesSpace, our archival collection management system, and output of EAD and MARC records to the Reuther web environment, the library catalog, WorldCat and ArchiveGrid."
The team included alumni Deborah Rice (Project Supervisor, MLIS '02), Alexandra Orchard (MLIS '12), Paul Neirink (MLIS '06), and Erik Nordberg (MLIS/Archival Certification '92). They worked in conjunction with project archivist Rebecca Bizonet, Virginia Thomas, Mary Wallace, Paul Neirink, Adeeb Mozip, Nasser Alkahali and Brandon Carter.
"The project had a total value of nearly $325,000, with $109,000 coming as a grant from the National Historical Records and Publications Commission, the granting wing of the National Archives and Records Administration," Nordberg also noted.
Congratulations to the entire Reuther team and our SLIS alumni!
