SIS scholarship honors Wayne State alumna

January 28, 2020

The Andrea Elizabeth Still Gray Endowed Scholarship was created by Andrea’s father, Steve Still, his wife Jenny and their Andrea Still Graydaughter Hope, to preserve Andrea’s memory and honor her love of learning and discovery.

The scholarship, which is awarded annually by Wayne State’s School of Information Sciences, was established to recognize scholastic achievement, passion for learning, and to help support recipients in their pursuit of knowledge that will positively impact the field of Information Sciences.

Andrea graduated from Wayne State with honors in 1994, earning a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology. Though she later moved to Boston, she loved Detroit deeply. She was confident in Detroit’s renewal and energized by the city’s diversity and cultural offerings.

After earning a master’s in library and information sciences from Simmons College in Boston, Andrea worked as an archivist at Harvard and Radcliffe libraries and served as a special collections librarian at the State Library of Massachusetts. She also was an award-winning digital media communications and marketing strategist.

Andrea was very active in the LGBT community and traveled the world on bicycling adventures with her wife Julie Gray. She also enjoyed gardening with her mom, Jan Still, and giving back to the community. Andrea served on the board of Boston’s History Project, which preserves and shares the history of Boston’s LGBT community.

The Andrea Elizabeth Still Gray Endowed Scholarship is permanent and will award approximately $1,000 each year. Additional gifts to the scholarship fund will increase the amount available to support students. For information on how to apply, visit Wayne State’s My Scholarship Portfolio.
