Updates from the University
As Wayne State University prepares for the return of employees, faculty and students, safety remains our top priority. While the ways in which we learn, work and live on campus may change, our commitment to the university's academic mission is stronger than ever. The university's dedicated COVID-19 website serves as a resource for messaging and guidelines concerning the restart of on-campus operations and preparations for the fall 2020 semester. We welcome your feedback and questions as we strive to make a safe return to campus.
Facilities Campus Restart Playbook
The Campus Restart Playbook is divided into expandable sections which outline pandemic operating procedures within its respective area of practice.
- The safety of our campus remains our number one priority.
- Continue the mission of the university.
- Learn and adapt based on our experiences so far.
- Try to protect people from difficult financial consequences.
Campus life and learning look different than they did in March, and we have new guidelines and procedures in place to accommodate physical distancing and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. But even though things have changed, we remain firmly committed to our academic mission. It's important to note that some plans and guidelines may change as conditions evolve and new information becomes available. Continue to monitor your email and Warrior Safe is Warrior Strong for the latest information. Please familiarize yourself with all essential guidelines before returning to campus to ensure your safety and that of your classmates, professors and friends. Updates from the Wayne State University Library System
Libraries Reopening on September 1
The UGL, Law and Shiffman libraries will be reopening for limited physical access on September 1 to Wayne State students, faculty and staff. Reuther is open for appointment via email@example.com and Purdy/Kresge will remain closed to the public.
To support the university's safety protocols that minimize physical campus use, we are encouraging the Wayne State community to continue to use our remote services but we will offer limited physical access, particularly for those who need to access technology to complete their virtual classes and coursework.
Based on our work with facilities, all buildings will offer reduced capacities and will be minimally staffed, providing limited onsite services including computer use, individual study space, material pickup paged from the collections and, when necessary, battery checkout for personal devices. University libraries and computer labs will implement new processes for cleaning of spaces and equipment, as well as new guidelines to facilitate social distancing.
Students, faculty or staff that wish to physically access the libraries will be required to make a reservation via the LibCal Seats app, which is currently in development. As soon as a link is available, we will share it with the list. More information about what the Seats app can do is available here.
The libraries are accepting returns of library materials. More info: How to return library, ILL, and MeLCat items. However, you can choose to keep the book until the libraries open on September 1. Fines will be waived until further notice.
