New Student Scholarship Application

SIS New Student Scholarships are competitive, merit-based awards targeted for new Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Science in Information Science (MSIS) students who enroll in the School for the Fall 2024 semester. The school's goal is to recruit high achieving, motivated students who will contribute to the SIS learning community. The awards will cover approximately two INF courses: one in Fall 2024, one in Winter 2025 (total amount of $5000).

Eligible nominees must:

  1. be admitted to SIS MLIS or MSIS program, AND
  2. begin their master's program in Fall 2024, AND
  3. be enrolled for a minimum of 6 graduate credits each in Fall 2024 and Winter 2025.

Students are eligible only if they will not receive other forms of Graduate School funding for AY 2024-2025 (e.g. Graduate Professional Scholarship or Graduate Student Assistantship). Other requirements/stipulations:

  • Out-of-state students, including international students, are responsible for paying the out-of-state portion of tuition (generally not an issue for SIS students in online programs who receive in-state tuition).
  • Differential tuition rates are the responsibility of the student.
  • The award is not transferrable if the original awardee does not meet the requirements of the scholarship or leaves a program before degree attainment.
  • Unused credits cannot be applied to other semesters
  • The scholarship must be used in the Fall 2024/Winter 2025 semesters. Extensions will not be granted to students who do not enroll and tuition scholarship payments cannot be delayed to a future semesters.

To apply, please complete the application below. Students must upload a personal statement between 250 and 500 words stating their educational background and professional objectives as they relate to their academic excellence, achievement and leadership experiences.

In order to be considered, applicants must be admitted to the MLIS or MSIS program by the scholarship application deadline. The application form will become available in May 2024. The application deadline is to-be-determined, but will be in early to mid June 2024.
