A Message from the Associate Dean

Welcome to the second edition of our electronic Connections newsletter! Here are a few fall semester highlights by the numbers:

  • 100 new graduate students at Orientation.
  • 40+ members of the faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers and members of our advisory board that met at our annual, day-long retreat to talk about LIS education and the future of the profession.
  • 2016 - the year the SLIS program seeks continuing accreditation from the American Library Association. The accreditation schedule is highly rigorous and intensive, involving 4 on-site expert reviewers, a 12-month in-depth assessment process and a detailed assessment report.
  • Our students, alumni and faculty continue to be a source of pride for us. Within this newsletter are stories of how our students are engaging with their peers on issues of access to information, and how critically thinking about data can shape views of the media and the public at large. We love to hear stories about the ways our students and alumni are impacting their communities, so drop us a line and let us know how you are making a difference.
