New ALA@Wayne President Laura Manley has high hopes for the upcoming year for the Student Chapter of ALA. As the first step in her ambitious agenda to increase student participation, she is planning an outreach program to educate students about the American Library Association and the benefits of student membership. She also plans to raise funds for ALA/MLA Membership scholarships as well as a scholarship covering ALA conference registration. Not content to wait until Fall to kick things off, she already has some summer planning meetings in the works. After that, there will be monthly meetings along with field trips to different types of libraries, visits from professional librarian guest speakers, and a library advocacy workshop.
