Emerita Professor Genevieve M. Casey Dies

The School is saddened by news of the death of Wayne State University Emerita Professor Genevieve M. Casey. Professor Casey's family note that she led a rich, full life and loved her experiences at the Library and Information Science Program at Wayne State. In particular, she treasured a photo from a special June 2008 WSU Reunion held in her honor, titled the "Class of 1972 Professor Genevieve M. Casey Fellows Reunion Group - June 2008, McGregor Memorial Conference Center, Wayne State University." At that reunion, Casey's former students conceived and initiated a new scholarship to honor the woman who did so much to shape their professional lives: the Professor Genevieve M. Casey Endowed Scholars Fund.

Casey, Genevieve, age 96, July 20, 2012. Survived by Cousin Germaine Allen and many other loving cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Eugene, her sister Marilyn and nephew John. Genevieve's life was one of service to her community and to God.

She was born in St. Paul Minn. and moved to Detroit at an early age. She held a Masters in Library Science and worked in that field most of her life.

Genevieve started her career with the Detroit Public Library. One of her accomplishments at DPL was the " Bookmobile." The Bookmobile was a mobile library that took books into neighborhoods throughout Detroit .In the early 60's she became the State Librarian. After completing her tenure in Lansing Genevieve returned to Detroit to become a professor of library science at Wayne State University. Genevieve authored a book on Msgr. Clement Kern and served on the board of his foundation.
