The School has received word of the death of Emeritus Professor Michael Keresztesi. Dr. Keresztesi was on the WSU faculty from 1973-1986. Below is the death notice from the Detroit Free Press.

Keresztesi Michael August 6, 2010, Age 90. Michael was born in a small village in Northern Hungary, one of 16 siblings, and the only one to graduate high school. Further education was interrupted by the war when he was inducted into a slave labor camp at a copper mine in Bor, Yugoslavia. After repeated attempts to escape he was liberated by the Russians in December, 1944. After the war he went to Paris where he met and married Jeanne Tozer, a Michigan girl. Upon coming to America he was finally able to further his education, earning two Master's Degrees and a PhD. In his lifetime he was a journalist, an historian, a librarian and a shoemaker, and was highly acclaimed as an educator, beginning his teaching career at the University of Michigan and in 1973 transferring to Wayne State University, where he was named professor emeritus upon retirement in 1986. Always active even in retirement, he co-founded the Elderwise Institute for continuing education in Port Charlotte, Florida. His interests were many, subjects taught included information science, ancient history, archeology and linguistics. He and his wife traveled widely through the United States and Europe, North Africa, Siberia, and the Canadian arctic pursuing his passion for linguistics. He leaves behind Jeanne his loving wife of 62 years, a daughter E. Catherine (Tom) Stevens, son Nicholas Julius (Marion), grandchildren Gabriel (Mette), Laura (Andy), Orion and Jennifer, and great grandson Istvan. A Memorial service will be held August 28, 2010, 2 pm at Riverside Park Place meeting room, 1050 Wall St., Ann Arbor.
