Enhanced MLIS Specialization: Health and E-Science

The School is pleased to announce another enhancement to its MLIS specializations. The Health and E-Science Specialization incorporates the latest ideas, techniques and technologies to prepare students for health sciences librarianship, health informatics, e-science, and health/scientific data management fields. The faculty decided to fast track this update based primarily on a significant increase in the number of professional positions for "e-science librarians." The update of the former "Health Sciences Librarianship" specialization included combining the two, former "resources" courses into one and adding a new course: Introduction to Health Informatics and E-Science. Additional courses from the School's Data Analytics specialization are also incorporated as suggested electives within the Health and E-Science specialization.

With this update, the Health and E-Science specialization provides MLIS students in the WSU School of Library and Information Science with the opportunity to analyze, practice, and build skills unique to data-driven health and scientific arenas. The new concentration is designed to prepare an information workforce that will contribute to and support patient care, teaching, research, policy/management, and health care transformation.
