Fall 2013 SLIS Graduate Student Assistantship and New Student Scholarship Recipients Announced

The School of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University is pleased to announce the recipients of three Fall 2013 WSU Library Graduate Student Assistantships and three New Student Scholarships.

The new WSU Library Graduate Student Assistants are Shayna Houghton of Plymouth, Michigan; Analise Johnson of Manistee, Michigan; and Rachell Weeks of Mount Pleasant, Michigan. They will work alongside library professionals across the WSU library system and be exposed to a wide range of professional library work activities and projects. The GSA positions have been redesigned to provide a wide overview of academic library operations, with a focus on developmental skills in operational areas increasing in responsibility and independence over a two year period. Each assistantship provides a full tuition scholarship (up to 36 credits) for a master's degree in library and information science (MLIS), an annual $15,000 stipend, and health insurance. The GSA positions are open to both new and current SLIS students.

The New Student Scholarships have been awarded to Jennifer Brcka of Niles, Michigan; Kayce Henderson of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; and Andito Johnson of Detroit, Michigan. These scholarships were established to recruit high achieving, motivated students who will contribute to the SLIS learning community both on-campus and online. The awards will cover two LIS courses.

Congratulations to this semester's New Student Scholarship and Graduate Student Assistantship recipients!
