Recent Presentations and Publications by SLIS Faculty Members

SLIS's faculty has been busy lately!

Dr. Joan Beaudoin gave two presentations at the 75th Annual Meeting of ASIS&T in Baltimore. The first, titled "Flickr Images: What & Why Museums Share" was co-authored with Cécile Bosshard, a current SLIS student. The second, part of the SIGVIS-sponsored panel Preserving Image-Based Cultural Heritage: Valuation, Negation, or Desertion, is titled "Context and Its Role in the Digital Presentation of Cultural Objects."

Dr. Deborah Charbonneau recently presented a continuing education workshop entitled "Survey Success: Simple Rules for Effective Survey Design" at the Ohio Health Sciences Libraries Association meeting.

Dr. Joseph Turrini has published an article titled "From History to Library and Information Science: A Case Study of Archival Education at Wayne State University" in the journal Information & Culture.

The April-May issue of the Bulletin of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), co-edited by Dr. Beaudoin, has won the Special Interest Group Publication of the Year Award from ASIS&T.

Dr. Beaudoin has also published two articles in D-Lib Magazine, the open source publication for all things digital libraries: "Context and Its Role in the Digital Preservation of Cultural Objects" and "A Framework for Contextual Metadata Used in the Digital Preservation of Cultural Objects."
