Congratulations to SLIS Adjunct Faculty Member Douglas Koschik, who has been named the new director for the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, Michigan! At its January 25 meeting, the Baldwin Public Library Board of Directors voted to approve Koschik as the Library's new Director, effective February 1. Mr. Koschik has 35 years of experience in libraries, the last 19 of which have been at Baldwin. He has served Baldwin as Head of Technical Services and Systems and as Associate Director, Technology/Technical Services. Since September 2009 he has been the co-Interim Director.

Mr. Koschik says: "I am firmly committed to maintaining the high level of service that residents have come to expect of Baldwin. At the same time, it is clear that the Library needs to contain costs, enhance revenues, and improve relations with all elements of the communities that Baldwin serves. I look forward to working with Associate Director Matt Church and the rest of the staff to achieve these goals."

Mr. Koschik earned a bachelor's degree in German and a master's degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan, as well as an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has long been active in the Michigan Library Association and the American Library Association, and since 2003 has served as an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University's School of Library and Information Science, where he has taught Cataloguing and Collection Development. He is also the Past President of the Birmingham Central Kiwanis Club.

The Baldwin Public Library was founded in 1907. It is the public library of the City of Birmingham and also serves the Villages of Beverly Hills and Bingham Farms through contractual agreements. The Library owns over 170,000 books, audiovisual materials, and electronic resources, and last year circulated 736,000 items to patrons. 373,000 visits were made to Baldwin during the year, and 27,000 people attended Library programs.
