SLIS Scholarship Application Period Now Open

The application for SLIS scholarships and awards is now available. The submission deadline is 12:00 am on February 15, 2015.

The list of School scholarships may be found at: http://students.slis.wayne.edu/students/scholarships.php

The application form for scholarships may be found at: http://slis.wayne.edu/admissions/online_scholarship_app.php

The application for the School travel award may be found at: http://slis.wayne.edu/forms/travel_award_application.pdf (Note, the travel award does not have a deadline.)

Finally, the application for the School writing awards may be found at: http://slis.wayne.edu/forms/student_writing_award.pdf

Students must submit a 250 word statement on why they should receive a scholarship. All students who apply will automatically be considered for the LIS General Scholarships.

Since students can apply for only two scholarships, students are encouraged to read the criteria carefully. Some scholarships have precise location or career goal requirements so that any student who qualifies will face less competition than is the case for the more general scholarships.

Students are also encouraged-- especially those with higher GPAs--to apply for the Wayne State University Graduate Professional Scholarships whose details may be found at: http://gradschool.wayne.edu/funding/sources.php The scholarship application requires recommendation letters so that students need to get an earlier start on completing their applications.

A separate scholarship eligible students are encouraged to apply for is the Bookstock Scholarship, which will award $1500 to a SLIS student with extreme financial need who demonstrates career plans to serve children or youth reading or literacy services (such as a public librarian or school media specialist) in an underserved, urban community in the Detroit metropolitan area. Complete details about the Bookstock Scholarship and the application are available online:http://slis.wayne.edu/admissions/bookstock.php.

Finally, students who have been admitted to the School but have not yet started classes are eligible to apply for scholarships.
