The Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science held its Annual Recognition Ceremony and reception on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the university's McGregor Memorial Conference Center. This ceremony honored the School's scholarship and award winners, student association officers, and the numerous contributions of the School's donors, faculty, and supporters.

2001 SLIS Graduate Ronald E. Wheeler, Jr., currently Director of the Fineman and Pappas Law Libraries and associate professor of law and legal research at Boston University School of Law and the current president of AALL, the American Association of Law Libraries, was honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Frances Moore Runnells Hotchkiss, also an alumna who has served for 37 years as the Youth Services Department Manager at the Brandon Township Public Library in Ortonville, Michigan was honored with the Professional Service Award. Adam Mosseri received the Patricia B. Knapp Award, given each year to the graduating student who has demonstrated a high level of scholarship and shows promise of success in a career in library and information science.
