A group of sixty students from the School of Library & Information Science (SLIS) enrolled in the Fall 2011 Access to Information (LIS 6120) and Indexing & Abstracting (LIS 8230) courses participated in a relevancy ranking exercise for one of the Cengage Learning online products. Cengage Learning is a publisher of print and digital information services for the academic, professional and library markets.

Under the supervision of Dr. Hermina Anghelescu (Associate Professor at SLIS) and Ivan Provalov, Information Architect at Cengage Learning, the students ran some 1,600 search queries for the Cengage Learning Academic OneFile database: http://www.gale.cengage.com/PeriodicalSolutions/academicOnefile.htm?grid=AcademicOneFileRedirect. This hands-on experience enabled SLIS students to become familiar with various stages of database development. This is the second time SLIS students have been invited to participate in such an evaluation project.
