SLIS Welcomes New Fall 2009 Students

Today SLIS welcomed 180 new students to the program for the Fall 2009 New MLIS Orientation. Just over half of the new students are enrolled in the Online MLIS Program, which is now one year old and continues to expand the size and diversify the geographic location of the SLIS student body. Including Michigan and Ontario, students came today from twenty three different states to the Wayne State University campus to begin their graduate studies-from California to Virginia, from Texas to Maine and from Florida to Oregon-and many states in between.

In addition to meeting with their advisors and the rest of the faculty and staff, students received preliminary information to make their first semester run more smoothly and help them learn the skills, knowledge, and processes that will aid in their continuing success as students in the program. Afterwards, some students remained on campus to complete IC3 exams, buy books or get their One Card. Other students joined the newly formed Progressive Librarians Guild student chapter across the street at the Circa Saloon.
We wish all the students the best of luck as they begin their studies!
