SOLIS Partners with Detroit Public Library for Children\'s Tutoring Initiative

SOLIS and the Children\'s Library at the Detroit Public Library (DPL) have partnered in a tutoring initiative to assist Detroit area school. LIS students and alumni can sign up to tutor at the DPL Children\'s Library on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. We welcome volunteers who are regularly available, but flexible scheduling is available.

Most of the children who frequent the Children\'s Library are in elementary or early middle school. Once you schedule a day and time, introduce yourself to the staff member on duty upon arrival and let them know that you are willing to help with a variety of homework tasks. The librarians and staff at the Children\'s Library will direct students to you. The tutoring sessions are very informal. Feel free to bring LIS homework to work on if there are not many children who need your help. This is a wonderful opportunity for LIS students and alumni to build their resumes and make professional connections in the local library field while also helping kids in need.

If you would like to participate, please contact SOLIS\'s Vice President, Todd Towler at dz8144@wayne.edu.
