1.4 Textbook Course Procedures

WSU Bookstore and Contact Information

Wayne State University uses the WSU Bookstore (Barnes & Noble College) as their primary textbook and course materials store. Robert (Bob) Novack is the Textbook Department Manager and assists full time and PTF in getting their textbooks and course materials listed on the bookstore website for student access as well as desk copy acquisitions for faculty. Bob can be reached at ah3044@wayne.edu or (313)-577-3840.

Textbook/Bookstore Liaison

Amber Harrison (Academic Services Officer) is the textbook/bookstore liaison for the School of Information Sciences. They facilitate conversations and transactions between the School and the bookstore. Amber also tracks textbook adoptions for recording purposes. If anyone has questions about textbook and desk copy acquisitions, please contact Amber at aharrison@wayne.edu or (313)-577-8543.

Subject Library Liaison

Rachael Clark (Librarian IV) is the subject liaison librarian for the School of Information Sciences. Rachael checks against library collections and determines whether we have virtual access to your chosen textbooks for you and your students (and acquires virtual access if needed and possible). Rachael can be reached at rachael.clark@wayne.edu or 313-577-6709.

Textbook Ordering

Textbook ordering is now an automated process for full-time faculty. The bookstore has a system in place where automated email messages are sent to instructors about textbook adoptions, to ensure that what they have listed on the bookstore website for ordering is up-to-date and accurate. If no textbooks or course materials are needed for your course, reply to the message with “no course materials required” to ah3044@wayne.edu. Any questions or concerns about this process can be directed to Amber and/or Bob.

Desk Copies

Desk copies are provided by the publishers, not the bookstore. However, the bookstore (Bob) can provide contact information for publishers, and in many cases facilitate the desk copy request to the publisher.  If necessary, the bookstore may also be able to “loan” the instructor used copies of the textbooks while waiting for the publishers’ copies to arrive. To request a desk copy, reach out to Bob Novack (cc Amber) and share the following information:

  • Textbook title
  • Textbook author
  • Textbook edition
  • Textbook publisher
  • Textbook ISBN (if known)
  • Preferred mailing address for shipment
