Welcome to SIS
Welcome to the School of Information Sciences at Wayne State University! It is an exciting time to be in the information field and a particularly exciting time to study at Wayne State. Whether you are a first-time graduate student or wish to return for more advanced education, we have a program to suit your needs and career interests.
The school remains focused on new initiatives to improve our students' job marketability while making the school accessible to more graduate students and mid-career information professionals. We currently educate students from more than 40 states as well as Washington, D.C., Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
We recognize the importance of our unique, urban location and do all we can to take advantage of this. SIS also maximizes its partnerships with Detroit's important cultural institutions, many of which are within walking distance of the school's home base in Kresge Library. We house a state-of-the-art Digital Media Projects Lab and provide numerous opportunities for students to gain experience while pursuing graduate education.
After completing their degrees, many of our graduates find placement in library and information environments in Michigan, while other graduates join the ranks of SIS alumni in other states and countries. We are exceptionally proud of the role that the School of Information Sciences plays in the profession. Many of our faculty and alumni are leaders in the profession, garner national awards, and contribute to the betterment of society through their research, teaching and service.
At Wayne State University we are fortunate to be part of a large, dynamic research institution with proven leaders. We have an excellent full-time faculty of researchers and educators. We draw upon leading information professionals from across the country who teach part-time and supervise our student interns. In addition, we have a dedicated, professional staff who make student success their top priority.
